Other car and truck accessories and billet steering wheels!

Few companies offer a fully custom built and designed aluminum steering wheel in multiple sizes. A lot of time is taken to computer aided draft a new steering wheel cut, and once that task is done the steering wheel can go into production. Each wheel starts with what we like to refer to as a raw blank. This blank is circular and in the gener size and shape of the new steering wheel. At this point the aluminum blank is loaded into a CNC machine where the new design software has been loaded and awaits its first pass cut. At this point the billet steering wheel starts to take shape. The design is now rough cut into the blank and you can begin to see that sweet custom design start to display. After the second cut, depending upon the type of design the wheel can now be removed for its final stages of manufacturing.

The newly completed unpolished rough steering wheel can now enter its de-burring, smoothing, and polishing process. Overall this process is very hands on, and can take anywhere from 48 to 73 hrs to complete to a shinny luster. It starts by de-burring the edges of the wheel so there are no remnants of microscopic metal peel or shavings. This is usually the most abrasive finishing process and in the end can even soften the edges quite substantially. Smoothing every surface of the billet steering wheel is out goal at this point. If there are any blemishes, or uneven surfaces this can be addressed at this point. After the wheel has been finished and is simply waiting for pollish it is technically usable in this brushed finish format. Polishing then begins when the wheel is deemed free of any imperfections or sharp edges.

The polishing process is truly the most difficult process of building a custom steering wheel as it takes hours upon hours of de-burring, rough polishing and final polishing. Total time spent on the end process of this billet aluminum steering wheel can take 3-4 days before it is deemed complete.
